Diesel Hemp is a boutique hemp farm with a powerful strain that is sweeping the market: Abacus Diesel. Read our review of the Abacus Diesel CBD Hemp Flower and Pre-Rolls to see if this is the CBD strain and grower that you’ve been looking for.

About Diesel Hemp

Diesel Hemp is a company that has built its entire brand off of one strain: Abacus Diesel. It is vertically integrated, which means the company handles everything from seed to sale. It does not source its flower or seeds from other companies, allowing full control over the quality and future of its cultivation and cultivars.

Abacus Diesel comes from OG Kush and Purple Urkle—two classic Cali strains. Their CBD-laden progeny is quite different from either parent.

Diesel Hemp has even continued with its breeding program and created new strains such as Lemon Abacus, Cherry Abacus, and Spec 7.

For this review, Diesel Hemp sent over its Abacus Diesel in both hemp flower and pre-roll form for me to try. I become a bigger fan of hemp flower every time I try it, and I hoped this experience would be the same.

Diesel Hemp Abacus Diesel CBD Hemp Flower Review

Diesel Hemp’s Abacus Diesel hemp flower comes in a glass jar with a black lid. It contains an eighth (3.5 grams) of flower, and as with most Diesels, the nugs weren’t very big and had a pleasant, light green color to them. No purple at all, despite the lineage of Abacus Diesel.

First Impressions of the Abacus Diesel CBD Hemp Flower

When I broke the seal on the jar, the smell of the Abacus Diesel hit me like a dump truck. It’s simultaneously sour and chem-y with a hint of lemon, and no sweetness whatsoever. This is exactly how the best Diesel strains I’ve ever smoked in my life have smelled on the surface, and my nose picked up on those main similarities right away.

I dropped the Abacus Diesel nugs into my grinder to open up the scent even more. I packed a bowl and torched it right away.

The intake was straight-up gassy and the exhaust was a little more grassy—but in a complementary way. All in all, it’s missing the grows-on-you aftertaste that I crave from New York or East Coast Diesels, but I suspect that’s just a matter of lineage, or maybe even growing environment.

The Verdict

I have long been advocating adding some hemp flower to one’s cannabis routine. Whether that means only smoking CBD-laden flower in the AM and not switching to THC-laden flower until the PM, or making your own 50/50 or other ratioed blends, this Abacus Diesel is perfect for it.

This CBD strain is terp-y and arrives in good enough condition that I’d wholeheartedly recommend it for dry herb vaporizers. Similarly, if a concentrate connoisseur wanted to press it into rosin to dab, I suspect the results would be quite satisfactory.

Diesel Hemp Abacus Diesel CBD Pre-Roll Review

diesel hemp abacus diesel pre-rolls

The Abacus Diesel Pre-Rolls by Diesel Hemp come in a small cardstock box. Opening the lid reveals a plastic baggie with five joints inside, weighing in at .5g each.

Putting the joints inside a sealed box (and in a plastic baggie) definitely leads to the flower being less dry than I’m used to. Pre-rolls usually come in a single container, and for something to be double-sealed will certainly help with moisture loss.

Also, Diesel Hemp pre-rolls use Raw rolling papers with a Raw filter.

First Impressions of the Abacus Diesel CBD Pre-Rolls

I opened up one of the joints so that I could peep the quality of the ground-up flower inside. I guess I’ve had way too many bad experiences with pre-rolls in my life that I always have to check now.

Nary a seed or stem, or even sugar leaf, was found. These pre-rolls are made with finely ground hemp flower—not hemp shake or trim. The ash was white, and the pre-rolls absolutely lived up to the #CleanBurningDiesel hashtag emblazoned on the box.

Halfway through, I could already feel the relaxation and energy replacing my anxiety and ennui.

The pre-roll lit easily and stayed lit with minimal canoeing. I really like CBD pre-rolls because I’m able to comfortably finish an entire joint by myself in one sitting. When I add THC to the mix, that becomes a little harder.

The pre-roll didn’t res up towards the end (which increases the harshness)—for which I was grateful.

Each of these pre-rolls was smoked in the AM out on my balcony, and I will say that my secondhand smoke smelled much better than the tobacco smoke from my neighbors. Way fewer carcinogens, too.

The Verdict

All in all, these are quality pre-rolls—whether for personal use or to bring to a sesh.
